Harnessing spherical aberration with its built-in control ring, the Voigtlander Portrait Heliar 75mm f/1.8 Aspherical Lens is designed to maximize photographic creativity when used with full-frame Nikon Z-mount cameras. The medium-telephoto prime has a fast, nine-blade iris with a versatile f/1.8 to f/11 aperture range, a 2.3' minimum focus distance, and Nikon Z electronic contacts for the transmission of Exif data to a connected camera.
Used in conjunction with its aperture ring, the aberration control ring adjusts for spherical aberration, affecting the image's overall sharpness and allowing a wide variety of bokeh expressions. When set to overcorrect, the lens produces an image with a sharp center of focus and bokeh with a distinct, bubbly shape. When set to under-correct, the center of focus is softer and has slight flairs at the highlights, while bokeh is rendered more gently. To maintain focus position during shifting aberration, the Portrait Heliar 75mm has a built-in mechanism that cancels out misalignment by changing the distance between the three lens groups in tandem with the aberration control ring.
