The Sigma FP2 Mirrorless Camera, the newest addition to the FP series, packs a 35mm full-frame partially stacked CMOS sensor into a remarkably compact body weighing in at 13.3oz, proving that a cinematic camera doesn't need to be cumbersome. With 6K OpenGate recording, ProRes RAW HQ support and a newly incorporated tilting LCD screen, the FP2 provides filmmakers more flexibility behind the camera and in post-production resulting in a small camera with serious creative potential. 

Advanced Imaging and Cinematic Performance

Advanced Autofocus and Sensor System

At the heart of the FP2 is a new 24.5 megapixel partially stacked sensor paired with a high-performance ASIC image-processing system that is 15% faster than the Sigma BF in addition to improved low-light performance with a limit of -10EV. This combination is designed to increase autofocus accuracy and speed, addressing an area where a camera needs consistent performance.

The FP2 introduces enhanced bird detection autofocus powered by a CNN (Convolutional Neural Network). This is an interesting addition for wildlife photographers and anyone who regularly photographs birds. Subject detection aids the camera in identifying birds and maintains focus effectively, reducing the need to rely entirely on manual focus-point placement.

Recording Flexibility and Time-Lapse

ProRes RAW HQ and additional compressed recording formats provide image flexibility and balances convenience for post-production which matters when a project moves from a quick turnaround to a more improved experience. Video output has been added to the existing interval timer with specifications of 4K/2K selectable (H.265, 16:9 only), 24,25,29,29.97, 48, 50, 59.94fps.

6K OpenGate Support

The FP2 supports 6K OpenGate recording for horizontal and vertical video and both are covered from a single shoot by cropping in post.

Cinematic Color Modes

The FP2 introduces three new color modes, Rich, Calm, and 709 Look, that blend stylized rendering with versatility making it easier to achieve the right look for any scene and offer distinct visual character.

Enhanced Usability and Workflow

Tilting LCD Screen and Heat Dissipation

The incorporation of the tilting TFT color LCD screen with approximately 2.1M dots proves to be a useful addition for monitoring low-angle tracking shots, overhead compositions, and shooting in cramped locations. The screen tilts upward by as much as 90 degrees and downward by up to 45 degrees. Another practical detail worth noting is the screen structure and heat dissipation during recording which contributes to the camera's broader approach to balancing the compact construction with demanding recording tasks.

Prolonged Battery Life

Rated at approximately 370 shots per charge under CIPA testing standards, the FP2's battery life has increased around 32%, compared with approximately 280 shots for the original FP. Battery use will vary based on performance, even so, the higher CIPA rating is a welcome improvement for travel, street, event, and wildlife photographers and videographers.

High Speed Internal Memory

Faster than memory used in previous systems, the FP2 offers approximately 70GB of internal recording capacity, providing a built-in storage option for capturing content without relying exclusively on removable media.

For filmmakers and photographers, internal storage simplifies a lightweight setup and offers additional flexibility when managing files in the field or on set and is especially appealing to creators who prefer to travel light.

EVF-21 Electronic Viewfinder

The Sigma EVF-21 brings forth an improved mounting system and has a higher resolution panel at 5.76 million dots. The eye sensor automatically switches between the LCD display and the EVF allowing for a more seamless shooting experience.

LVF-21 LCD Viewfinder

The Sigma LVF-21 changed from the fixed mounting of the FP's LCD viewfinder to a slide-on, detachable design. The LVF-21 has the ability to be attached with the LCD tilt in a fixed position.

HU-21 Hot Shoe Unit

The Sigma HU-21 is the hot shoe unit specifically made for the FP2. The communication specification changed from Sigma's proprietary system to the specification that is shared with the Lumix and OM Systems. Additionally, it is compatible with Profoto and Godox flash units.

Sigma 50mm f/2 DG Contemporary Lens (L-Mount, Black)

Offering a focal length ideally suited for portraiture, street scenes, and all-purpose shooting, the Sigma 50mm f/2 DG Contemporary Lens delivers sophisticated optical performance and fast autofocus in a compact and lightweight design.

One of the most versatile focal lengths available, this 50mm lens pairs its normal field of view with a bright f/2 maximum aperture that strikes a balance between a compact design and low-light performance plus control over depth of field. This combination makes the 50mm f/2 an ideal everyday lens for environmental portraiture and landscapes with a narrow-enough field of view to isolate details and subjects within busy scenes.

• Contemporary Line lens features a compact design that measures approximately 2.75 x 2.75" and a weight of just over 12 oz, making it portable enough for everyday shooting needs without compromising on optics or speed.
• Internal focusing design pairs with a stepping AF motor for responsive and fast focusing performance that's suitable for both stills and video applications.

• Optical design includes one SLD element and three aspherical elements, to optimize sharpness and limit aberrations, and a Super Multi-Layer Coating that controls flare and reflections.

Sigma I-Series Lens

The Sigma I-series is a group of full-frame-compatible lenses emphasizing the ideal mixture of performance and compactness for mirrorless shooters. Combining high optical performance with a stylish and sleek design, these lenses are well-matched to contemporary mirrorless cameras and shooters who prioritize lenses with a high degree of usability, portability, and capability.

• I-series lenses have an all-metal construction, including precision-cut aluminum parts on the barrel that offers an elegant finish that's equally durable. Metal materials are also used throughout the internal construction for added robustness and reliability that is inspired by Sigma's Cine lens lineup.

• Knurled aperture and focus rings, along with an included knurled metal lens hood, further contribute to a pleasing tactile experience.
